TBC East-West Challenge Ends in a Draw

Photo: The scoreboard showing the results of the East-West Challenge. Had to wait a long time for the final team to come in from the course. For the East squad, it was time well spent as Easterners Vic Wallace and Don Hogle fashioned a 2.5 to .5 win over West guys CV Burgess and John Bloom to draw the squads to dead even.

TBC Challenge Comments

Yesterday's 18 hole TBC Challenge at Country Oaks ended in a tie between the East and the West teams. The teams played six holes scramble, six holes best ball and then six holes of alternating shot to conclude the TBC schedule for the year. East teams Jack Nickless and Morris Cornelius along with Vic Wallace and Don Hoagle managed to beat their opponents from the West by a combined score of 3 points to offset the shellacking that Mike Bird and Junior Byron took at the hands of Phil Culver and Tony Burnside. The other three foursomes played to a 'coulda-stayed-in-the-clubhouse-and-drank-coffee' break even tie in their matches.

TBC at Lakeview results

On Tuesday, August 12th, the Tuesday Boyz Club played a modified scramble with all golfers playing their own ball on the par threes. Three low scores counted as the team score. And those par threes played havoc with each of the three teams out for the fun and games. The results with the par three score following the total:

1. Jerry Robinson, John Chapman, Mike Anderson and Mike Bird: -2 and +7
2. CV Burgess, Jim Henry, Jack Butcher and Phil Culver: 0 and +6
3. Ray Shaw, Danny Thomas, Junior Byron and Tony Burnside: +4 and +10

Boyz Finale at Lakeview Won by West Squad

Leaders Fall but West Squad Still Swamps East in Boyz Finale

Pictures: a. Phil Culver, Junior Byron, Tony Burnside; b. Al Kavanaugh, Mike Anderson, John Walker, Jim Fox; c. Jack Lents, Ken Graehler, Jack Williams, John Chapman; d. Scoreboard e. the West Squad.

Tony the Tiger Burnside and Phil em Culver, the leaders of the Tuesday Boyz West Squad that came to Lakeview this morning, fell in their match with Mike Bird and Junior Byron, .5 to 2.5, but it turned out it didn't matter a whit. Their support crew easily turned the tables and handed the East Squad a sound thumping taking sixteen of the twenty-one available points. With the exception of a tie between the Jack Butcher/Rex Hudson team and the Denny Pitts/Danny Thomas team, all the other matches were triumphs by the West golfers. Oh such misery for the East Squad who did some recruiting this year (bringing in John Walker from the Tuesday Men's League and getting Jim Fox to come up from Florida(!)) in an attempt to reverse the stinging defeats of the past two years. But to no avail. The West golfers found their East hosts to be extremely generous in their graciousness at making them feel at home at Lakeview. One might even say that they bent over backwards to ensure that their guests had a good time. Well, they did. People are already wondering if the West golfers will be as accommodating next year when the event moves to Country Oaks. Anyone care to guess?

Hole prize winners at the event were Garth Riffey, Calvin Guy, Mike Anderson, and Jack Butcher.
